CHan Chan

CHan Chan

Chan Chan (of the quingnam Chang or Chan that means Sun, with what Chan-Chan parts, literally: Sol Sol). It is had as hypothesis of his real meaning in Spanish: The Great Sun, shining Sun, resplendent Sun or reshining Sun (here one sees a typical feature of the language quingnam or chimú in that the reduplication of a word acquires a new meaning). It is supposed that the name owes him to the intense solar exhibition that was supporting the city. The above mentioned name comes from the transcriptions of the Spanish chroniclers.

It is a pre-Columbian city of adobe, constructed in the north coast of Peru for the chimú. It is the city constructed in bigger adobe of Latin America [1] and the second one in the world. It is located to the northwest of the Metropolitan Area of Trujillo between the districts of Trujillo and Huanchaco. It was declared as Heritage of the Humanity by the UNESCO in 1986 and included in the List of the Heritage of the Humanity in danger in the same year.

Location

Chan Chan's citadel is located between Huanchaco and Trujillo (to 5 km from this one), in the Region The Libertad, on the north coast of Peru. One agrees in Moche's valley (former known as Chimor's valley). His location near to the beaches demonstrates the importance that had the fishing and the sea for the chimúes.
Architecture

The architectural form in which Chan Chan is organized reflects that a strong stratification existed, with social different classes occupying different areas and own buildings to his economic condition. The citadels, for example, are protected by high walls and have an alone access, facilitating the control of those who were entering and going out. The citadels share formal characteristics, since:

     * They are areas surrounded of rectangular form.
 * They have north orientation / south.
 * They are divided in three sectors.
 * A high degree of planning is notable in his construction.
 * Principal access located in the northern part.
 * Similar zoning to the interior of the citadels.

Huanchaco

Huanchaco's resort is located in the district of the same name. It is the most important and beautiful resort of the city of Trujillo, the capital of the Region The Libertad.
Huanchaco's name comes from Guaukocha (beautiful lagoon with golden fish). Today it is a traditional and picturesque resort, obligatory stop for the tourists who visit the city of Trujillo.
In the high part of the resort a beautiful colonial church gets up. In this church there is venerated the Holiest Virgin of the Help
.

Caballito de Totora

Incrusted in the sand erect crafts rest of totora. Per centuries this one was the symbol, the demonstration, the palpable evidence of the respect of the population of the Peruvian coast for the subtle threads that weave the ecological balance. Bordering on the beach, in the distance a green almost imperceptible line. Of there there continues being extracted the material used during three to five milleniums [1] for the production of the rustic ships. They are the totorales, the wetlands, the marshy grounds. In the former language of the zone there are called they "wachakes", word that can be translated as " water eye " and that they say gives his name to this magic place: Huanchaco, one of the last redoubts of the caballitos of totora.

What are you waiting to come to Huanchaco?
